🎤 Artist Interview: TRICKID - Raw Sound, Honest Vision, and the Journey Ahead

 At Indie Planet, we love spotlighting artists who shape their sound with intention, honesty, and passion. Today, we’re excited to introduce TRICKID, a Korean producer and rapper whose raw mixing style, fearless experimentation, and collaborative spirit have made him a quietly powerful force in the indie scene. From early inspirations to upcoming large-scale plans, TRICKID walks us through his journey and the evolving identity behind his music.

1. What inspired you to start making music, and what’s the meaning behind your stage name, TRICKID?

TRICKID: I first got inspired in 2018 while watching the Korean hip-hop survival show Show Me The Money 777. Around the same time, I started listening to Bassagong’s album 탕아, and that really motivated me to begin making music. I started officially releasing tracks on Apple Music and Spotify in 2022. My original stage name was Trick:n4me, but I changed it to TRICKID, inspired by the Korean producer JayKidman’s name.

2. How did your collaboration with Peera Tear begin? Any memorable moments or creative synergy during the process?

TRICKID: In 2020, I joined a crew called “Wudai Crew,” where Peera Tear was also a member. We found that our musical styles aligned well, and we could match each other’s work pace. So, we formed a team called HALLELUJAH and released two EPs together. Peera Tear has a very natural rap style, which made producing and arranging the tracks really enjoyable, and the results turned out amazing.

3. When mixing and mastering, what are your main priorities, and do you have a personal sound philosophy?

TRICKID: I try to preserve a raw feeling in the music. I want to capture the exact emotions and intentions the rappers have while recording. At the same time, I aim to organize it so it sounds clean and clear. I used to prefer blunt, dreamy mixes, but recently I like sharp, crisp mixing.

4. Which recent project challenged you the most, technically or emotionally?

TRICKID: My album [FIELD] with rapper Woong Ga, released on November 13, 2025, was particularly challenging. I aimed to make banger tracks and explore the genre “rage,” which I had never tried before. The album draws a lot of inspiration from Playboi Carti, and creating it was focused on exploring these new sounds.

5. Are there any upcoming projects or directions you’re excited to pursue?

TRICKID: I’m planning a large-scale project that will showcase who TRICKID really is as an artist. I hope everyone looks forward to it. It’s going to be something special.

1. 음악 작업을 시작하시게 된 계기와, TRICKID라는 이름에 담긴 의미를 소개해 주실 수 있을까요?

A: 2018년에 한국의 힙합 서바이벌 프로그램 Show Me The Money 777을 보면서 음악을 해보고 싶다는 생각을 했으며, 래퍼 "뱃사공(Bassagong)"의 앨범 [탕아]를 듣기 시작하면서 음악을 시작했어요. 본격적으로 Apple Music이나 Spotify같은 곳에 release를 시작한 것은 2022년부터입니다. 원래는 Trick:n4me이라는 활동명을 사용했지만, 한국의 프로듀서 JayKidman의 이름으로부터 영감을 받아 TRICKID라는 이름을 짓게 되었어요.

2. Peera Tear님과의 협업은 어떻게 시작되었나요? 함께 작업하면서 느낀 시너지나 기억에 남는 순간이 있다면 알려주세요.

A: 2020년에 "Wudai Crew"라는 곳에 들어갔어요. 그 크루에 Peera Tear님이 계셨죠. 다른 분들도 계셨었는데 음악적으로 색깔이 잘 맞고 작업량도 맞출 수 있었던 분이 Peera Tear님이었어요. 그래서 저희끼리 "할렐루야(HALLELUJAH)"라는 팀을 만들어서 두 차례 EP 앨범을 발매했습니다. Peera Tear님이 랩을 꽤나 담백하게 잘 해주셔서 제가 편곡하기에도 재미있었고 결과물이 너무 잘 나왔습니다.

3. 믹싱·마스터링을 진행할 때 가장 중요하게 생각하는 기준이나 본인만의 사운드 철학이 있을까요?

A. 저는 날 것(raw)의 느낌을 잘 살려보려고 노력합니다. 래퍼들이 작업을 할 때 의도했었던 느낌을 그대로 반영하고 싶어서 이러한 작업 방식을 선택하게 되었죠. 하지만 날 것은 살리면서도 최대한 정리해서 깔끔하게 들려드리고 싶은 마음이 있습니다. 예전에는 뭉툭한 믹스와 몽환적인 믹스를 선호했었는데 요즘은 샤프하고 선명한 믹싱을 좋아합니다.

4. 최근 작업하신 곡 중 기술적으로 혹은 감정적으로 가장 도전적이었던 프로젝트는 무엇이었나요?

A. 래퍼 웅가(Woong Ga)와 2025년 11월 13일에 발매한 [FIELD]라는 앨범 자체가 제겐 도전적이었던 앨범입니다. 뱅어(Banger) 트랙을 만드는 것이 목표였고 레이지라는 장르는 한 번도 시도하지 않은 장르였는데 이 앨범 자체가 그것들에 초점을 맞추고 만들었던 앨범이에요. 플레이보이 카티에게 많은 영감을 받은 앨범입니다.

5. 앞으로 도전해보고 싶은 음악적 방향성이나 계획 중인 프로젝트가 있다면 들려주세요.

A. 대형 프로젝트를 하나 기획 중입니다. TRICKID라는 사람을 보여주는 앨범을 만들고 있습니다. 많은 기대 부탁드립니다.
