Producer Tipsymaki on “Antares,” Creative Freedom, and Future Ambitions
South Korean producer Tipsymaki is carving out a unique space in the hip-hop scene with bold ideas, genre-blending instincts, and an emotional creative approach that goes far beyond labels. After debuting earlier this year with “BLOCK!”, he returns with his powerful third single “Antares (feat. G2)” a track inspired by cosmic scale, personal expression, and global ambition.
In this interview, Tipsymaki opens up about his creative philosophy, his collaboration with rapper G2, and the diverse influences that shape his evolving sound.
1. Please introduce yourself and tell us a bit about your musical journey.
Hello, I’m Tipsymaki, a producer mainly working in hip-hop. I officially began releasing music this July with the single “BLOCK!”, created together with KitsuYozi. Nice to meet you!
2. What was the inspiration and creative process behind your third single with G2?
My new single “Antares (feat. G2)” started very casually from four samples that producer Yosi tossed to me almost like a joke.
Antares is a red supergiant star about 700 times the size of the sun, and its name carries the meaning “rival of Ares,” the god of war.
As a small human being, I wanted to express something incredibly bright, massive, and awe-inspiring through sound.
It took a while to connect with G2 and finalize everything, but because of that, I was able to polish the track with great attention to detail. I’m very proud of how it turned out—it’s a song I truly love.
3. As a hip-hop producer, do you have a signature style or creative philosophy?
I don’t decide what I’m going to make before I start. Even during the process, I avoid predicting what the final piece will look like.
Instead, I gather ideas in a vague, open state and shape them freely. I try to bring out traces of all the genres that have ever given me chills or joy, in my own way.
I don’t limit myself by sound or method if it stimulates my senses, I’ll use it.
4. What led you to create the entire track in English? Did you consider a global audience?
G2 is from Texas and currently works mostly in the U.S. market. He feels much more natural rapping in English than in Korean.
I also don’t aim exclusively at the Korean hip-hop scene. My goal is to make music that global listeners can enjoy, so the direction of this track naturally aligned with that.
5. What message or feeling did you want to convey through this song?
It’s quite abstract, so it’s difficult to explain directly.
But the themes I mentioned in Question 2, Antares’ scale, brilliance, and symbolism are embedded in the song.
G2 interpreted that concept beautifully through his own lyrics.
6. Are there any artists or trends in the hip-hop/music scene that have inspired you recently?
I love so many different genres that it’s hard to pick one major influence.
But I can say which artist has inspired me the most throughout my life: the German metal band Rammstein. I love them so much that I have a tattoo of them on my left arm.
And although it’s an older release, Zior Park’s “Ghost” also left a vivid impression on me. You must watch it with the music video, the atmosphere stays with you.
