🌟 Interview: The Redemptions (Ruby Records) - The Indie Planet

 Today, The Indie Planet is honored to present a special interview with The Redemptions, a rising Seoul-based rock band under Ruby Records. Known for their explosive energy and uncompromising sound, The Redemptions are carving out a fierce identity in the Korean rock scene.

We spoke with the band about their creative direction and their powerful new single, “Receiver.”

INTERVIEW:

1. For those discovering you for the first time, could you briefly introduce The Redemptions?

A. Hello, Indie Planet! We are The Redemptions, a Seoul-based band driven by the raw impulse of rock and roll. Our biggest strength is pure explosiveness. With uncompromising rock sound and overwhelming energy, we break the boundary between stage and audience to deliver a primal live experience.

2. What kind of atmosphere and message does your new single “Receiver” explore?

A. “Receiver” is a futuristic hybrid rock track that sparks with energy at every moment of contact. It converts emotion, impulse, longing, and desire into something electric, throwing the listener into a space between explosion and liberation. Our message is simple: “Life is an endless attempt to connect.” Like particles scattered after the Big Bang, we are all destined to race forward, striving to come together.

3. What inspired you to create this track?

A. We wanted to fuse the physical grit of old-school rock with the sensibilities of a new electronic era, and prove that the collision of those worlds can deliver real physical thrill. We were constantly envisioning images, stories, and concepts that could match the fresh and stimulating sound.

4. Were there any new challenges or changes in style with this single?

A. Our biggest achievement was collaborating with synthesizer specialist Producer Lee Myung-jae, allowing us not just to add new sounds but to truly break the boundary between rock and electronic elements. Sparkling synth waves shooting over rough garage beats create a completely new kind of rush. Also, with guest keyboardist Yoon Nokha, our live sound has become more dimensional and even more provocative in its energy.

5. Was there a memorable moment during the production process?

A. The music video was a particularly special experience. Translating the song’s themes origin, pursuit, and futuristic hybrid rock, into visual form was a huge creative challenge. Together with the director, we explored surreal and cinematic imagery that feels like a vivid dream, filled with striking and unexpected visuals that capture the explosive energy of “Receiver” perfectly.

6. What do you hope listeners feel when they hear this track?

A. We confidently believe that anyone who hears this song will want to move like crazy. We hope this music acts like an unstoppable current flipping the switch on suppressed emotions and delivering catharsis and liberation. And we hope listeners will run full speed toward their destiny without hesitation.

 1. 먼저 The Redemptions 밴드 소개를 간단히 부탁드립니다.

A. 안녕하세요! 인디 플래닛. 우리는 로큰롤의 순수한 충동이 끓어넘치는 서울 기반 밴드 리뎀션즈입니다. 저희의 최대 강점은 폭발력입니다. 타협하지 않는 록의 사운드와 압도적인 에너지 레벨로, 객석과 무대의 경계를 허물며 원초적인 라이브를 선사하는 밴드입니다.

 2. 이번 신곡 ‘Receiver’는 어떤 분위기와 메시지를 담고 있는지 소개해주실 수 있을까요?

A. ‘Receiver’는 닿는 순간마다 스파크가 튀어오르는 미래지향형 하이브리드 로큰롤입니다. 감정과 충동, 결핍과 열망을 전기적 신호로 변환하여, 청자를 폭발과 해방의 경계로 던져넣는 트랙이죠. 우리의 메시지는 “생명은 연결을 향한 끝없는 시도”라는 명확한 진실이에요. 빅뱅 이후 흩어져 있던 전자처럼, 우리는 모두 결합되기 위해 애쓰며 사방으로 달려나가야만 하는 숙명을 지니고 있습니다.

 3. 이 곡을 작업하게 된 계기나 영감은 무엇이었나요?

A. 낡고 고리타분해진 록의 육체성과 새로운 시대의 전자적 감각을 결합하여, 두 영역의 충돌을 물리적인 쾌감으로 증명하고 싶었습니다. 신선하고 자극적인 사운드에 걸맞는 이미지나 스토리, 컨셉에 대해서도 무의식적으로 계속 구상을 하고 있었던 것 같습니다.

 4. 이번 싱글에서 새로운 시도나 기존 스타일과 달라진 점이 있다면 말씀해 주세요.

A. 이번 신작의 가장 큰 성과는 신디사이저 스페셜리스트 이명재 프로듀서님과의 협업을 통해, 단순히 새로운 사운드를 도입하는 것을 넘어 록과 일렉트로닉의 경계를 허무는 하이브리드를 완성했습니다. 스파클링 신스의 파동이 거친 개러지 비트 위로 전압처럼 쏘아 올려지는 사운드는 전에 없었던 새로운 쾌감을 선사할 거예요. 또한, 키보드 객원 멤버 윤녹하의 합류로 기존 곡들의 라이브 사운드가 더욱 입체적이고 도발적인 에너지를 갖게 되었습니다.

 5. 작업 과정에서 기억에 남았던 순간이나 특별한 에피소드가 있다면 들려주세요.

A. 이번 싱글에서는 뮤직비디오 작업이 가장 특별한 경험이었습니다. 이 곡이 가진 존재의 기원, 닿기 위한 질주, 미래지향의 하이브리드 로큰롤이라는 복잡한 은유들을 시각적으로 구현하는 것이 큰 도전이었죠. 감각적이신 감독님 덕분에, 다양한 이미지들을 뮤직비디오에 과감하게 섞었습니다. 마치 영화를 보다가 잠들었을 때 꾸는 꿈처럼, 공룡을 탄 수많은 사람들이나 미식축구공을 들고 도로 위를 달리는 자극적인 이미지들이 쉴 새 없이 몰아치며 ‘Receiver’ 곡 자체 가진 폭발성과 에너지가 완벽히 표현되었습니다.

 6. 이번 신곡을 팬들이 어떻게 들어주었으면 하는지, 어떤 감정으로 받아들여주길 기대하시는지 궁금합니다.

A. 저희는 이 곡을 들은 후에는 누구나 미친 듯 움직이고 싶어질 것이라고 단언합니다. 이 음악이 팬들에게 주체할 수 없는 전류처럼 작용하여, 억눌렸던 감정의 스위치를 올리고 폭발적인 카타르시스와 해방감을 느끼게 해주는 전기적 시그널이 되기를 진심으로 기대합니다. 그리하여 운명을 향해 주저없이 전속력으로 달려가시기를요!
