In this interview, we explore their journey, the inspiration behind the album, and their message to fans. Ready to learn more? Let’s dive in! π«
1. Can you tell us about your musical journey and how you got started as an artist?
A: I have always been attached to music on what feels like a spiritual level. I loved to sing and dance but it wasn’t until age 12 that I joined my middle school choir. As scary as it was, it ignited the next 7 years of peak interest, practice, and passion for singing. After graduation, I figured, “why not?” And I challenged myself to produce my first song.
2. Your debut album The Last Wave is a significant milestone. Can you share the inspiration behind the album’s creation?
A: I am constantly amazed and inspired by my favorite artists, new and current! But I got re-inspired after scrapping my first attempt at a debut album. I wanted to make something that represented youth, and everything that came with it, not just the cute fun parts of life. It took a lot of reflecting and soul-searching but I eventually found a vibe that stuck with me.
3. What themes or messages do you explore in The Last Wave, and why are they important to you?
A: I played around a lot with the idea of feeling uneasy, fearing the unknown. I have struggled with mental health for majority of my life, and some of these songs really reflect my own feelings and experiences during the times those songs was written. I wanted my audience to feel every thought and discretion possible, in hopes of someone resonating with me.
4. How would you describe your sound, and what genres or artists have influenced your music?
A: I personally do not like to put myself in a box, or specific “sound” of music. I love every realm of music, and if I feel confident and inspired, I am always willing to try a new sound! But, I am heavily inspired by artists like Paramore, imogen heap, Ariana grande, Sabrina carpenter, bad suns; just to name a few. As of now, indie rock/punk rock is my preferred sound, but who knows what I’ll try next.
5. What was the creative process like when producing The Last Wave? Were there any challenges you had to overcome?
A. There were sooo many demos. I am particularly nit-picky when I am producing, especially when it comes to arranging vocals and harmonies. I could like something today, and completely hate it tomorrow. It became a long game of cat and mouse, so I had to just tell myself “okay, this is what you got, this is how we like it. Stop here.” And I would just move onto the next song. I also took time to understand that my sound won’t be for everyone, and as long as I’m in love with my own art, someone somewhere else will definitely love it just as much.
6. Do you have a favorite track from the album? What makes it stand out to you personally?
A. My favorite track to date is still “Anti-gravity”. It was the first song on the album that I had actually finished, and I feel like in a way, it kind of set the tone for the following songs. It’s an airy pop adjacent song that touches themes around an unrequited breakup.
7. As an independent artist, what has been the most rewarding part of your journey so far?
A. Slowly but surely, I have adored seeing the genuine support come in. It could be from friends in my personal life, or strangers. It’s just validating to know that not only am I taking myself seriously, but others are starting to view me seriously too. There’s people actually listening and vibing however they choose.
8. What do you hope listeners take away from The Last Wave? Is there a specific feeling or message you want them to connect with?
A. I want my listeners to understand that no one has it figured out just yet. Life is a journey that is filled with uncertainty, and blank pages. We are artists, and you can start over however many times you choose to. Fall in love, fall out of love, and learn yourself. It’s the most rewarding thing.
9. Do you have any collaborations or future projects in the works that fans should look forward to?
A. I do have a bigger project I am working on, but I am not ready to announce it just yet. But in the meantime, I have just released my newest single “You didn’t hear it from me” and some soundcloud gems that are now up for streaming.
10. Where can your fans find your music, and how can they stay updated on your latest work?
