Interview with Han Seyeon

 

Meet Han Seyeon (한세연) , a multi-talented artist who weaves together acting, singing, dancing, painting, and writing into one beautiful creative journey. From her first steps as a dancer at 11 to expressing love and emotion through music today, Han Seyeon continues to explore the depth of human connection and self-discovery through her art. In this exclusive written interview with The Indie Planet, she opens up about her inspirations, challenges as an indie artist, and the heartfelt stories behind her music.

0. Self-introduction

Hello :) I’m Han Se-yeon, an artist who combines various arts such as acting, singing, dancing, painting, and writing! I started dancing at 11, writing lyrics at 14, acting at 18, and painting at 23. Now, at 28, I‘m trying to make myself known to the world through music. ㅎㅎ

1. What made you start music and what drew you to it?

As a multi-disciplinary artist, I work on creating works of art that connect to specific themes:) I first encountered music (lyrics) when I was 14, and it started with a song I wrote alone while missing a specific person. I think that, like all art, it’s about turning a piece of your heart into a jewel, and the reason I was drawn to music is because there is no other medium to express ”love“ as much as music. I tend to express love through lyrics and melodies. So, I unraveled that love from my own perspective and prepared to create my own music!

2. What inspires you in your songs and creative process?

”Love.“ Love takes many forms. Love is inherent in everything, the love I have for myself, the love I have for loved ones, the love I have for nature—and I create songs based on that love. :) And there‘s another thing: ”self.“ As I explore myself, delve into the abyss, and various thoughts emerge, I create songs. I want to utter the phrase, ”All answers lie within me.“ :)

3. What project or song are you most proud of among the ones you’ve worked on so far, and why?

There‘s an audio drama called ”Whispers of the Galaxy.“ I created it under incredibly difficult circumstances, but I wrote it without hesitation, played two roles on my own, and it includes a demo song for ”Hanul,“ which will be released next year! I plan to remake ”Whispers of the Galaxy“ in even higher quality, and I’ll include the arrangement of ”Hanul“ and the music for the upcoming release. ”Whispers of the Galaxy“ isn‘t just an audio drama; I also planned a music appreciation event for it, and the fact that I was able to see it through from planning to execution makes me incredibly proud!

4. What challenges have you faced as an indie artist, and how did you overcome them?

I’m grateful to have met someone who can help me bring my songs to the world, and thanks to that, I‘ve started making music. The only challenge is promotion. I’m constantly thinking about how to promote my songs so the public can hear about them. Promotion seems to be the most difficult part. I feel like the only way to overcome this is to knock on doors here and there. I‘ll keep knocking on the doors of your hearts. Just open them once :)

5. Are there any new songs or collaborations you’re looking forward to releasing in the future?

Fall is coming! ”The End of a Day,“ a song that consoles and encourages oneself, is getting ready to be released :) The lyrics and melody that comforted me, telling me that it‘s okay and I did well, when I was exhausted at 21, are getting ready to reach out to you as music!

11살에 춤을 시작으로 예술의 길을 걸어온 그녀는, 지금은 음악을 통해 사랑과 자아를 노래하며 인간의 깊은 감정과 연결을 탐구하고 있습니다. 이번 The Indie Planet과의 인터뷰에서는 그녀의 영감, 인디 아티스트로서의 도전, 그리고 작품에 담긴 진심 어린 이야기를 함께 나눠봅니다.

0. 자기소개

안녕하세요:) 연기, 노래, 춤, 그림, 글쓰기 등 다채로운 예술을 겸하는 예술인 한세연입니다! 저는 11살에 춤을, 14살에 작사를, 18살에 연기를, 23살에 그림을 접하며 시작하였고 현재 28살에 노래를 통해 세상에 저를 알리려고 하고 있습니다ㅎㅎ

1. 음악을 처음 시작하게 된 계기와 음악에 끌리게 된 이유는 무엇인가요?

저는 다원예술인으로서 특정 주제에 연결하고 싶은 예술적 장르를 작품으로 만드는 작업을 하고 있습니다:) 음악(작사)를 처음 접한 건 14살 때였는데, 홀로 특정 상대를 그리워하며 만든 노래가 시작이었어요. 모든 예술이 그렇듯 마음에 있는 조각 하나를 보석으로 가공하는 일이라고 생각하는데요 음악에 끌리게 된 이유는 “사랑”을 표현하는 데에 음악만 한 매체가 없었기 때문입니다. 저는 유독 사랑에 대한 것은 작사나 멜로디를 붙여 표현을 하게 되더라고요. 그래서 그 사랑을 저만의 시선으로 풀어내었고 저의 음악이 탄생할 준비를 마쳤답니다!

2. 노래와 창작 과정에서 영감을 주는 요소는 무엇인가요?

“사랑” 사랑의 형태는 여러 가지입니다. 내가 나를 아끼는 사랑, 사랑하는 사람을 향한 사랑, 자연을 위한 사랑 등 모든 것에 사랑이 깃들어있고 저는 그 사랑을 토대로 노래를 만듭니다:) 그리고 또 한가지가 있는데 “자아”입니다. 나를 탐구하고 심연을 파고들며 다양한 생각으로 이어져 곡으로 탄생하는데 ‘모든 답은 내 안에 있다’라는 문장을 뱉어내고 싶습니다:)

3. 지금까지 작업한 프로젝트나 곡 중 가장 자랑스러운 것은 무엇이며, 그 이유는 무엇인가요?

“은하의 속삭임” 이라는 오디오드라마가 있습니다. 제가 너무나도 힘든 상황 속에서 만든 작품인데 글도 막힘없이 써내려갔고, 1인2역을 혼자 소화하였고 내년에 발매될 ‘한울’의 데모곡이 수록되어 있어요! 은하의 속삭임은 더욱 높은 퀄리티로 리메이킹 할 예정인데 그때 ‘한울’의 편곡, 발매할 음악을 동봉하려고 합니다. 은하의 속삭임은 오디오드라마에 그치지 않고 음감회라는 행사를 준비했었는데 기획부터 실행까지 해냈다는 생각이 스스로 자랑스럽다고 자부하게 만드는 작품입미다!

4. 인디 아티스트로서 겪었던 어려움은 무엇이었고, 그것을 어떻게 극복하셨나요?

저는 감사하게도 제 노래를 세상 밖으로 꺼내줄 사람을 만나게 되었고 그 덕에 음악을 만들게 되었습니다. 다만 어려움이 있다면 바로 ‘프로모션’인데요 노래를 어떻게 홍보해야 대중들이 알 수 있을지에 대해서 고민이 많습니다.. 홍보가 가장 어려운 것 같아요. 극복은 제가 여기 저기에 문을 두드리는 방법 외에는 없는 것 같다는 생각이 듭니다. 제가 끊임없이 여러분의 마음에 문을 두드릴게요. 한번만 문을 열어주세요:)

5. 앞으로 공개될 신곡이나 협업 중 기대되는 것이 있나요?

다가오는 가을! 스스로를 다독이며 위로하는 “하루 끝”이 발매할 준비를 하고 있습니다:) 21살에 녹초가 되버린 스스로에게 괜찮아 잘했어 하며 위로해준 가사와 멜로디가 여러분에게 음악이 되어 다가갈 준비를 하고 있는데요!
