 Q1. Can you briefly introduce yourselves and explain how Ilmong was formed?

Hello, we are Ilmong.

We are a band exploring “somewhere between daily life and dreams” through music.

We came together out of a shared desire to explore experiences of facing oneself through music, and each member brings a unique musical background.

Our band name combines ‘daily life’ and ‘dream,’ also implying a gathering of people chasing the same dream.

Q2. How would you describe your music and the themes you explore in your songs?

We feel “inner narrative” best describes our music.

We sing about encountering oneself in dreams, lingering emotions, and subconscious landscapes.

Rather than using familiar language, we aim to convey universal feelings through unconventional symbols and imagery.

Musically, we draw on blues, jazz, punk, and rock, while infusing Korean interpretations.

Ultimately, the core of our music is a journey to understand oneself. Like our slogan “somewhere between daily life and dreams,” our stories unfold at the boundary between reality and dreams.

Q3. What inspires your songwriting and music creation process?

We mostly draw inspiration from dreams, memories, and recollections.

Lyrics often stem from members’ daily emotions or subconscious imagery.

In composition, the member who generates the initial idea sets the framework, and others contribute rhythm and harmonic elements, completing the song naturally.

We also take inspiration from film, literature, and visual arts, recreating the atmosphere or emotional lines of impactful scenes in our music.

Q4. What challenges have you faced as an indie band, and how did you overcome them?

The hardest challenge was maintaining Ilmong’s unique identity.

Initially, we felt pressure to follow trends or external standards, but we realized staying true to our own path was most important.

Through multiple performances and recordings, we gained confidence, shaping our current musical style.

Going forward, we plan to keep expanding through diverse experiments and approaches.

Q5. Are there any upcoming projects, new songs, or performances you’d like to share?

We are currently working on a concept album.

Each track contributes to a larger narrative centered around “dream narratives.”

This album will follow the perspective of a character named Hajin, expanding the world from our previous releases “Lucid Dream” and “Chase.”

We also plan live performances at the end of the year.

Q6. What emotions or thoughts do you hope listeners experience when they hear your music?

Kim Dream (Guitar):

“We hope our music resonates with listeners regardless of their situation. Whether they are happy or sad, we want our songs to touch them deeply. Sometimes we hope people reflect on it for a while, and other times, just enjoy it casually.”

Yoon Yongwon (Guitar/Synth):

“Rather than leading listeners to specific thoughts, we hope the music is first enjoyable. Anyone can easily listen, enjoy, and find their own interpretations and emotions. If our music naturally spreads and connects people, that’s our greatest reward.”

Choi Gaeun (Vocals):

“Following Ilmong’s slogan, we want to create and perform ‘dreamlike songs.’ Dreams aren’t always good; some are forgotten quickly while others linger. We hope our songs leave a lasting impression, like dreams, giving listeners a brief escape from daily life.”

Oh Minhyuk (Bass):

“If listeners can immediately recognize an Ilmong song and distinguish it from others, we feel our intention is fully conveyed.”

Heo Jiwoon (Drums):

“Like waking up and forgetting the dream you just had, we hope our music is ‘light and ephemeral.’ Nothing remains after listening, but in that moment, you can immerse deeply.“

Q1. 간단한 자기소개와 ‘일몽’이 어떻게 결성되었는지 말씀해 주세요.

안녕하세요, 밴드 일몽입니다.
저희는 “일상과 몽상, 그 사이 어딘가”를 음악으로 탐구하고자 하는 밴드예요.
음악이라는 매개체를 통해 자기 자신과 마주하는 경험을 공유하고자 하는 공감에서 모이게 되었고, 각자 다른 음악적 배경을 가진 멤버들이 함께 활동하고 있습니다.
밴드 이름은 ‘일상’과 ‘몽상’을 합친 것으로, ‘하나의 같은 꿈’을 좇는 사람들의 모임이라는 의미도 담고 있습니다.

 

Q2. 여러분의 음악과 곡에서 다루는 주제를 어떻게 설명하시겠어요?

저희는 ‘내면적 서사’라는 표현이 가장 잘 어울릴 것 같아요.
꿈속에서 마주한 자신의 모습, 감정의 잔향, 그리고 무의식의 풍경들을 노래합니다.
현실적이고 친숙한 어휘보다는 비정형적인 상징과 이미지로 보편적인 감정을 표현하려고 해요.
장르적으로는 블루스, 재즈, 펑크, 록 등을 기반으로 하되, 한국적인 해석을 녹여내고 있습니다.
결국 “자신을 이해하려는 여정”이 저희 음악의 핵심이에요.
‘일상과 몽상, 그 사이 어딘가’라는 일몽의 슬로건처럼, 현실과 꿈의 경계 어딘가에서 펼쳐지는 이야기들이라고 생각해 주세요.

 

Q3. 가사 작성부터 곡 작업까지, 창작 과정에서 영감을 주는 요소는 무엇인가요?

주로 ‘꿈’, ‘기억’, 그리고 ‘추억’에서 영감을 얻습니다.
가사는 멤버들이 평소에 겪었던 일상적인 감정이나 무의식적인 이미지에서 비롯되는 경우가 많아요.
작곡 과정에서는 먼저 아이디어를 낸 사람이 큰 틀을 잡고, 다른 멤버들이 리듬적·화성적 요소를 더해가며 자연스럽게 완성합니다.
또한 영화, 문학, 회화 등 다양한 예술 분야에서 영감을 많이 받아요.
인상 깊었던 장면의 분위기나 감정선을 음악적으로 재구성하면서 곡을 만드는 편입니다.

 

Q4. 인디 밴드로서 겪었던 어려움은 무엇이었고, 어떻게 극복하셨나요?

무엇보다 ‘일몽만의 색채를 잃지 않는 것’이 가장 어려웠습니다.
처음 곡을 쓸 때는 주변의 기준이나 유행을 따라가야 한다는 강박과 유혹이 있었지만, 결국 저희가 나아가야 할 방향을 지키는 게 가장 중요하다는 걸 깨달았어요.
몇 번의 공연과 녹음을 거치며 확신이 생겼고, 그 과정을 통해 지금의 음악적 결을 완성하게 된 것 같습니다.
앞으로도 한 방향으로만 나아가기보다, 다양한 시도와 방식을 통해 계속 확장해 나갈 예정입니다.

 

Q5. 앞으로 공개 예정인 프로젝트, 신곡, 공연 등이 있다면 소개해 주세요.

현재 작곡을 계속 진행하며 콘셉트 앨범을 준비 중입니다.
‘꿈속 서사’를 중심으로 각 곡이 하나의 큰 이야기 흐름을 이루는 구조를 가지고 있어요.
이번 앨범은 ‘하진’이라는 인물의 시선으로 전개되며, 이전에 발매한 자각몽과 추격전의 세계관을 확장할 예정입니다.
또한 연말에는 라이브 공연도 계획하고 있습니다.

 

Q6. 청취자들이 여러분의 음악을 들을 때 어떤 감정이나 생각을 하길 바라시나요?

김드림 (기타)
“저희의 음악이 청취자분들의 상황에 관계없이 공감이 되었으면 좋겠어요.
기쁠 때나 슬플 때나 마음 깊이 와닿는 이야기를 노래하고 싶습니다.
가끔은 오랫동안 곱씹으며 여운을 느끼기도 하고, 또 어떤 때는 아무 생각 없이 편하게 즐길 수 있는 밴드로 다가가고 싶어요.”

윤용원 (기타·신스)
“특정한 생각을 유도하기보다는, 먼저 가볍게 즐길 수 있는 음악이 되었으면 합니다.
누구나 쉽게 듣고 즐기며, 그 안에서 각자의 해석과 감정을 나눌 수 있는 음악이 되길 바라요.
결국 저희의 음악이 사람들 사이에서 자연스럽게 공유되고 확장된다면, 그게 가장 큰 보람일 것 같습니다.”

최가은 (보컬)
“밴드 일몽의 슬로건처럼 ‘꿈만 같은 노래’를 만들고 부르고 싶어요.
꿈이란 항상 좋은 것만은 아니지만, 어떤 꿈은 금세 잊히고 또 어떤 꿈은 오래 남잖아요.
저희의 노래도 그런 꿈처럼, 듣는 분들의 기억 속에 오래 남는 곡이 되었으면 합니다.
버거운 일상에서 벗어나 잠시나마 환상 속으로 빠져들 수 있는 음악이 되기를 바라요.”

오민혁 (베이스)
“청취자분들이 ‘이건 일몽의 노래구나’ 하고 느낀다면, 그리고 그 음악이 다른 밴드와 확실히 구별된다고 생각된다면, 그것만으로도 저희의 의도는 충분히 전달된 것이라고 생각합니다.”

허지운 (드럼)
“잠에서 깨어나기 직전, 방금 꾸던 꿈의 내용을 잊어버리듯 저희 음악도 그런 ‘뒷끝 없는 담백한 음악’이 되었으면 합니다.
듣고 나면 아무것도 남지 않지만, 그 순간만큼은 진하게 몰입할 수 있는 음악이요.”

일몽은 앞으로도 다양한 시도와 실험을 통해 자신들만의 음악적 색채를 확장해 나갈 예정입니다.
